€5.8 Million Available for SMEs Through the Interreg Bulgaria–North Macedonia Programme

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the cross-border region of Bulgaria and North Macedonia will benefit from a new €5.8 million funding opportunity launched under the Interreg VI-A Bulgaria–North Macedonia Programme 2021–2027. The call aims to strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses by supporting innovation, sustainable growth and cross-border cooperation.

The initiative encourages SMEs to work together across the border, develop innovative products and services, improve productivity and explore new market opportunities. By supporting joint projects, the programme seeks to create stronger economic links between neighbouring regions while contributing to sustainable regional development and increased competitiveness.

The call forms part of the broader Interreg Programme, which invests in environmental protection, tourism, business development and regional connectivity. The new border crossing is expected to facilitate the movement of people and goods, improve transport links and contribute to stronger economic cooperation between border regions. Once completed, it will also provide direct access to the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), helping improve regional mobility and creating new opportunities for trade, tourism and local development.

Construction works are expected to continue until the end of 2029. The project reflects the European Union’s continued commitment to supporting cross-border cooperation and bringing neighbouring communities closer together through sustainable infrastructure investments.
