Establishment and upgrade of the identification and registration process of mixed migration in North Macedonia in view of a connection to EU information systems
Project Description
Through the EU-funded project 'Establishment and Upgrade of the Identification and Registration Process of Mixed Migration in North Macedonia', the European Union (EU) is supporting North Macedonia in its efforts to enhance its border security. This initiative focuses on strengthening border management infrastructure and human rights protection in accordance with EU standards. The project is being implemented by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) in close cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia.
The project represents a significant step forward in managing migration and enhancing border security in North Macedonia. With the support of the EU, North Macedonia is poised to upgrade its IT and communication infrastructure to support the identification and registration process of mixed migration flows aligned with European standards. This initiative not only addresses immediate challenges but also lays the foundation for efficient border and migration management and the protection of individuals' rights.
Specific Objective
• Enhance overall safety in North Macedonia: Improve the security landscape of the country by fortifying border management.
• Increase security and human rights protection: Establishing an EU-compliant identification and registration system to accurately identify individuals, reduce the risk of migrant smuggling, and enhance the safety of both migrants and the local population.
• Strengthening access to protection for vulnerable people: Ensuring that vulnerable individuals on the move have better access to protection mechanisms.
• Build the capacities of the border police: Providing training to border police to ensure they are sensitive to protection and human rights issues.
Expected Results
