The 'EU Support to the Regional Waste Management System in the Skopje Region' project aims to develop all required planning and technical documentation to support the establishment of a financially and operationally sustainable integrated Regional Waste Management System (RWMS) in the Skopje Region. In parallel, it will strengthen the capacities of regional and local waste management structures and design, and implement a comprehensive public awareness programme promoting sound and responsible waste management practices.

The overall objective is:

• To support establishing an integrated and self-sustainable RWMS in the Skopje Region, compliant with national and EU standards.

The specific objectives are:

• To prepare all necessary planning and technical documentation for setting an integrated self-sustainable RWMS in the Skopje Region.
• To increase the capacities of regional and local waste management structures of the Skopje Region.
• To increase public awareness of waste management in the Skopje Region.

• Review and update of the Regional Waste Management Plan (RWMP) for the Skopje Region with a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and an assessment and analysis of the existing situation of waste management in the Skopje Region.
• Preparation of Feasibility Study, Cost-Benefit Analysis and Environmental Impact Assessment Study for establishing an integrated and self-sustainable RWMS in the Skopje Region.
• Preparation of technical documentation of supply and works for necessary investments to establish an integrated and self-sustainable RWMS in the Skopje Region.
• Regional and local authorities and institutions' capacity building for effective implementation and enforcement of the regional waste management system.
• Public awareness programme and campaign to support introducing an integrated and self-sustainable RWMS in the Skopje Region.
